Today Mysore needs no introduction. It is a fantastic place on its own. Mysore is a gifted place with many sightseeing places and 7 palaces, making it an ideal holiday destination.

Mysore is famous for Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, Sand Museum, Mysore Zoo, St. Philomena's Cathedral, and so on. It is a clean and royal city. The best time to visit this place is Dasehra as the whole city of Mysore is lightened up.

Places to Visit in Mysore:

Mysore Palace:



As the title suggests Mysore is a City of Palaces. It has 7 Palaces in total. One of which is the Mysore Palace also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, the most fascinating and famous one. It is officially the residence of the Wadiyar Dynasty. This Palace is in the center of Mysore and faces the Chamundi hills. Mysore palace is one of the most popular tourists attraction in India after the Taj Mahal. It is surrounded by a beautiful large garden.

Today Mysore palace is managed by the government of Karnataka, while the royal family continues to live in a portion of it. Inside the palace, one would see the royal costumes, jewelry, paintings, weapons, etc. which the Wodeyars possessed.

You would also see the Gombi Thotti or the Dolls Pavilion, a collection of traditional dolls; The Maharaja's Elephant Seat 'Golden Howdah' which is made of 85 kg's of gold, etc.



Great fun is especially at night you would see the most fascinating scene of the palace as there is a special 'Light Show' show from 7 PM to 8 PM. The show starts with storytelling about the Mysore palace and the city. The effect of the light and sound keeps changing simultaneously with the storytelling.


The entry for the show is 40 rupees for Adults. Over 6 million people visit this palace every year.

Mysore Palace is definitely a worth visiting place.

Chamundeshwari Temple:



Chamundeshwari Temple is located on the top of the Chamundi hills, in front of Mahishasur temple.

It is famous for the celebration of festivals like Ashada Shukravara, Navaratri, and Amanavara Nardhanthi. Over lakhs of people visit this temple of Chamundeshwari Temple.

You too can visit this temple and seek blessings.

St. Philomena's Cathedral:



Cathedral of St. Joseph and St. Philomena is also known as St. Philomena's Cathedral is said to be the second tallest church in Asia

It is said that every year more than 5000 devotees come here to pray. You can also visit this Cathedral for blessing and be a part of these 5000 people.

Mysore Zoo:



Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens also known as Mysore Zoo is one of the most popular and old zoos in India. It is an extremely varied zoo, from animals to birds to even reptiles. There are in total of 1450+ animals in this zoo. Mysore zoo is the only zoo in India to have Gorilla.



It is the home to Animals like Giraffes, Zebra, Lions, Tigers, White Deer, Otters, Porcupines, etc. and for Birds like Blue and White Peacock, Emu, Ostrich, Silver and Gold Peasants, Flamingoes, etc. One would also find Reptiles like Pythons, King Cobra, Alligators, and even the Star-Studded Turtles. All this in a single place!

Timings: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

You at least need 3-4 hours to enjoy the entire zoo. Entry fees 80 for adults, 40 for kids, and free entry for kids below age 5.

If you are with your kids then this is definitely gonna be the best place where your child will have lots of fun. It is splendid and a worth visiting zoo.

Sand Museum:



Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum is the first sand museum in India. It is an excellent example of creativity with a total of 150 brilliant sand sculptures. You can never deny visiting this place as there are Ganesh, Sants Clause, Christmas Tree, Zodiac Wheel, Laughing Buddha, Tom and Jerry, etc. all that is made up of only and only sand.



It is definitely a must visiting place.
